Piano Pedagogy for the Lifelong Musician!

WELCOME TO THE DIANA A. PETTIT PIANO STUDIO

Diana Pettit is an independent piano teacher in the East Limestone area of Athens, Alabama, who offers private piano instruction to students of many ages and levels. She is degreed, certified, and experienced.

The piano instruction in the teaching studio consists of a well-balanced curriculum that includes repertoire, technic, ear training, theory, and functional keyboard skills including composition, transposition, and improvisation.

The instruction is individualized for each student so that each may become a lifelong musician.

"It is my desire that each student who studies with me will become a lifelong musician so I customize the instruction for each student in an educational environment that promotes learning and the enjoyment of music."

ABOUT

Diana A. Pettit has many years of experience teaching piano. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music in1976 and then later earned her Master of Music degree in Music Education from Boston University in 2007. During her career, Diana has taught piano students of all ages and levels with widely varying musical goals. Her performance activities include many years serving as a church musician.

In addition to teaching piano, Diana has also had significant teaching experience in the music education field of curriculum design and implementation. From 2007 – 2010, Diana advised and facilitated over 70 Boston University graduate music education students in their thesis preparations in the Boston University Distance Education Master of Music Education degree program.

Diana is an active member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and has held offices in the local, state, and national levels of the organization. She has served as the President of the Huntsville Music Teachers Association, Certification Chair for the Alabama Music Teachers Association (AMTA), State Judges Coordinator for the AMTA, and as the Southern Division Commissioner for MTNA.

In addition, Diana is a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC). Diana also maintains active memberships in the Music Teachers National Association, the Alabama Federation of Music Clubs, The Decatur Music Club, and the Huntsville Music Study Club. Her students have won numerous composition awards at the State level. She has also had two students who were named national winners in the NFMC biannual Lynn Freeman Olson Composition Competition.

Diana holds Permanent Professional Certification as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano (NCTM) from the Music Teachers National Association.
